The two tech builders discussed the exponential speed of AI progress along with the inherent limitations of large language models.

🔹 **No Intrinsic Motivation**: While AI might soon be able to execute highly complex, long-term goals like winning a prestigious Fields Medal, it cannot define its own objectives. Large language models possess no inner drive to explore, discover new interests, or independently change their minds.

🔹 **Metrics Hacking**: AI models are still notoriously bad at writing because they optimize to hack the feedback metrics they are trained on. This results in unnatural patterns, like stuffing a metaphor into every single sentence, causing a terrible user reading experience.

🔹 **The Engagement Trap**: AI models optimized purely for high user engagement fail to provide actual, long-term value. For example, a helpful AI should proactively tell a user to simply send an email rather than wasting twenty rounds polishing a relatively minor message.

🔹 **The Goal-Setting Human**: Even as AI models grow exponentially more capable, human uniqueness remains rooted in our capacity to establish independent purpose. We must continue to behave as if our personal decisions truly matter, avoiding the trap of passive resignation in a fully automated future.
